In the early hours of a Friday morning in downtown Savannah, Georgia, a dispute between two men escalated into a fatal encounter. On June 11, 2021, 30-year-old Maurice Griffin was shot in a parking lot near the Hotel Indigo on W. Bay Lane. The incident, which police believe was not a random act, occurred around 3:15 a.m. following a verbal altercation that turned violent.
Responding to reports of the shooting, Savannah Police officers found Mr. Griffin with gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries, but tragically, he did not survive. The investigation into his death began immediately, with detectives quickly identifying a person of interest.
Later that same day, authorities arrested 22-year-old Adrian Stewart and charged him with murder in connection with the death of Maurice Griffin. Investigators have indicated that the shooting was the culmination of a confrontation between the two men. While an arrest has been made, the case remains under investigation.
Mr. Griffin, who was also listed as being 29 years old, was a resident of Port Wentworth, Georgia, and worked as a Correctional Officer. He was remembered as a loving companion, son, father of two, and brother.
