In the early morning hours of July 24, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on Cherry Street in Macon, Georgia, leaving a scene of chaos and tragedy. When the violence subsided, 22-year-old KaBryan Zyke Johnson, an African American male, was gravely wounded. He was rushed to a local emergency room but succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Another young man, 20-year-old Donovan Cason, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident, which also left three others injured, stemmed from a large fight that had broken out.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. Their efforts led them to 22-year-old Jacorey Keshawn Meadows, who was identified as the suspected shooter. With the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and U.S. Marshals, investigators located and arrested Meadows at an apartment complex in Atlanta. He was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Macon for questioning.
Following his arrest, Jacorey Keshawn Meadows was charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of KaBryan Zyke Johnson and Donovan Cason. He also faced five counts of aggravated assault for the injuries sustained by the other victims. As the case prepared to move forward, the Macon District Attorney's Office announced in February 2025 that they were seeking the public's help in locating a crucial witness, Joshua Cason, ahead of Meadows' trial. The trial was scheduled to proceed, marking the next chapter in the quest for justice for the lives lost and irrevocably altered on that summer night.
