In the late summer evening of August 10, 2021, a promising young life was tragically cut short in a Buckhead apartment complex in Atlanta, Georgia. Olohiye Ehimiaghe, an 18-year-old female, was fatally shot at the Ashley Gables Buckhead apartments on East Paces Ferry Road. The incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m., when police were called to the scene following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Ehimiaghe with a gunshot wound.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to an arrest. On August 11, 2021, Atlanta Police took 18-year-old Hilena Misganaw into custody. Misganaw, from Snellville, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Ehimiaghe's death. Homicide detectives determined that the shooting was a result of negligent manslaughter. She was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail.
Further details that emerged from the investigation painted a picture of a devastating accident. It was revealed that Misganaw had been playing with a handgun while Ehimiaghe was filming her with a cellphone. Tragically, the firearm discharged, and a single bullet struck Ehimiaghe in the face, causing the fatal injury. During the court proceedings, it was disclosed that another individual was also charged in relation to the incident, pleading guilty to tampering with evidence. Ultimately, Hilena Misganaw entered a guilty plea to the charge of involuntary manslaughter for her role in the death of her friend.
