On October 5, 2021, 29-year-old Akelia Ware, an African American woman from Pine Mountain, Georgia, was tragically found fatally shot in her car on the side of Highway 18 in Troup County. Ware, who was 33 weeks pregnant, was discovered by deputies responding to reports of a car crash. Her vehicle was riddled with bullet holes, and she was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
