A male resident of the area, Eldridge was fatally shot, a violent end to a disagreement that had reportedly been escalating for some time.

The investigation into Eldridge's death quickly focused on his neighbor, Johnnie Bryant. The conflict between the two men was reportedly centered on a property line, a common source of friction that in this case, had devastating consequences. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement took Bryant into custody as the primary suspect in the death of his neighbor.
Nearly two years after the fatal encounter, Johnnie Bryant stood trial in a Harris County courtroom in June of 2023, facing a series of grave charges that included Malice Murder and Felony Murder.
