On the evening of November 9, 2021, Javon M. Jackson, a 21-year-old African American male, was at his grandmother's home in the Southwood Mobile Home Park in Milledgeville, Georgia. The gathering was a somber one, meant to honor the birthday and upcoming death anniversary of his late brother, who had also been a victim of gun violence. Jackson, a new father to a 2-month-old daughter, was reportedly not feeling well but wanted to be with his family.
Later that night, the commemoration
turned to tragedy when a shootout erupted outside the residence. Investigators reported that approximately fifty gunshots were fired from multiple weapons during the exchange. Jackson, who was in the yard of his family member's home, was struck by multiple gunshots. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Another individual was also wounded in the shootout, sustaining a gunshot to the leg.
The investigation into the death of Javon Jackson led to the arrests of four individuals. Authorities apprehended Garyuntae Ivey, 19, T'Andre Tramayne Alexander, 24, and Devion Boyd, 17, in connection with the fatal shooting. A fourth suspect, Netobia Williams, was also taken into custody. All four men were indicted by a Baldwin County grand jury on charges of malice murder, felony murder, and multiple counts of aggravated assault.
In August 2023, Netobia Williams entered a guilty plea to one count of malice murder and one count of aggravated assault. As a result of the plea agreement, four other felony charges against him were dismissed, and he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. He will be eligible for parole consideration after serving 30 years. Another co-defendant, Devion Boyd, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and received a sentence of 20 years, with the initial 12 years to be served in prison. Two of the co-defendants, including T'andre Tramayne Alexander, testified during the trial of Garyuntae Ivey.
