In the early morning hours of December 3, 2021, the vibrant streets of downtown Savannah were pierced by the sound of gunfire, forever altering the course of one young man's life. Ol’Liek Dashawn Bonaparte, a 23-year-old male, was discovered near the intersection of West Congress and Jefferson Streets with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Emergency services rushed him to a nearby hospital, but tragically, his injuries proved to be fatal.
The Savannah Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Preliminary information suggested that the incident may have stemmed from an earlier altercation, though the specific details of what led to the fatal encounter remained under investigation. Following a traffic stop, officers arrested 32-year-old Rashiid Wright in connection with Bonaparte's death. Wright was subsequently charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
