In the early evening of March 15, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on Lake Avenue in Griffin, Georgia, tragically ending the life of 23-year-old Wildarius Tyrell Draggs. Draggs was on a porch with another individual, Rayshon Goodrum, when the shots rang out. Struck in the chest, Draggs was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Goodrum was also hit but survived the attack. The seemingly random act of violence was later revealed to be a calculated, albeit misguided, act of gang-related violence.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified several individuals of interest. Surveillance footage from the area captured a vehicle circling the location before the shooting. From this vehicle, Isaac Reid, DeQuivon McMullin, and Cameron Barkley were seen exiting and moving towards the house where Draggs and Goodrum were sitting. Shortly after, the fatal shots were fired. Authorities determined that the intended target was a rival gang member who the assailants mistakenly believed to be at the residence. Wildarius Tyrell Draggs was not the intended victim.
In the days following the shooting, law enforcement executed search warrants at two residences, leading to multiple arrests. Among those taken into custody were 15-year-old De'Quivon McMullin and 16-year-old Issac Reid, who were both charged as adults with murder. Also arrested was 41-year-old Lakeisha McMullin, who was charged with being a party to a homicide. Two other individuals were arrested and charged with obstruction of justice for their attempts to hinder the police investigation.
The legal process culminated in a joint trial for Isaac Reid, DeQuivon McMullin, and another co-defendant, Kinesa Harvey. During the trial, testimony from co-defendant Cameron Barkley implicated Reid as the primary shooter. The prosecution presented evidence that included shell casings found at the scene and a photograph of the gold-colored handgun believed to have been used in the shooting. After a week-long trial, the jury found Isaac Reid guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and violation of the Georgia Street Gang and Terrorism Prevention Act. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. DeQuivon McMullin was convicted of felony murder and also received a life sentence. Kinesa Harvey was acquitted of all charges. An appeal filed by Reid was later denied, and his conviction was upheld.
