In a burst of violence that shattered a spring afternoon, 21-year-old Daniel Moreno was killed in a double shooting on April 14, 2022, in Forest Park, Georgia. The fatal encounter unfolded around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Ash Street and Longleaf Drive. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Moreno suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body; he died at the scene. A second 21-year-old man, identified as Tyron Morris, was also found with gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Initial investigations revealed that a physical altercation involving several individuals had taken place just before the shooting. While the exact cause of the fight was not immediately clear, it escalated to gunfire, resulting in Moreno's death and Morris's injuries. Detectives from the Forest Park Police Department quickly took charge of the case, combing the area for evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. At the scene, they recovered 9mm bullets and shell casings. In the days following the shooting, police released photos of a person of interest they were seeking to identify and question in connection with the incident.
The investigation progressed swiftly, and on April 18, 2022, the Forest Park Police Department announced the arrests of two teenagers. Samari Kora, 18, of Jonesboro, was charged with malice murder and possession of a weapon during a crime for allegedly shooting Daniel Moreno. A second suspect, 17-year-old Villalta Ivan Monge of Forest Park, was charged with aggravated assault for his alleged role in the shooting of Tyron Morris. Both suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Clayton County Jail, where they were held without bond. Forest Park Police Chief Nathaniel Clark commended his detectives for their tireless work in solving the case quickly and thanked the public for their assistance.
