On a late spring evening in Sandy Springs, Georgia, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal tragedy, claiming the life of 21-year-old Jazhae Monta Marshall. The incident unfolded on May 23, 2022, at the Dunwoody Pointe apartments located off Roswell Road, where Marshall resided with his girlfriend and her two nephews.
Earlier in the evening, a physical altercation had reportedly broken out between Marshall and his girlfriend.
Her 17-year-old nephew, Jamari “PeeWee” Marable, a student at North Springs High School, was present during the dispute. According to police, after the initial fight between Marshall and the aunt had concluded, Marable shot Marshall multiple times. The shooting was witnessed by Marable's 12-year-old brother, which led to additional charges. Emergency services found Marshall at the scene, having succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
Initially, there were considerations that the shooting might have been an act of self-defense. However, further investigation by the Sandy Springs Police Department led them to believe that Marshall did not pose a threat at the time of the shooting, as the fight with Marable's aunt had already ended. Consequently, authorities issued warrants for the arrest of Jamari Marable, who was described as 'armed and dangerous.'
A few days later, on May 28, 2022, Marable surrendered to authorities at the Fulton County Jail. He was subsequently charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and cruelty to children. While Marshall's mother refuted the claims that her son had been physical with his girlfriend, asserting that he was a good person, Marable remained in custody. The case highlighted a tragic culmination of domestic strife, forever altering the lives of two families.
