It was May 28, 2022, and a graduation party was in full swing at the Main Event Center, with around 200 young people in attendance. Among them was 18-year-old Akeem Ellison, a recent graduate of Manchester High School where he had been a football player. The festivities were shattered when a fight broke out inside the venue, escalating to gunfire.
In the chaos that ensued, three teenagers were struck by bullets. Ellison was critically wounded and rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The male victim’s life, full of promise, was cut short. Two other teens, a 17-year-old from Manchester and a 15-year-old from Thomaston, were also injured in the shooting. The 17-year-old was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
The Thomaston Police Department responded to the scene to find a frantic crowd and the wounded victims. Despite the large number of potential witnesses at the party, investigators have struggled to identify the individual or individuals responsible for the shooting.
