In the late afternoon of June 5, 2022, the life of 17-year-old Rutravious Loftin, a Black male, was tragically cut short by gun violence in Columbus, Georgia. The shooting occurred just before 3:30 p.m. at a gas station located in the 5700 block of Buena Vista Road. When Columbus police officers arrived at the scene, they found the teenager with fatal injuries.
The Muscogee County Coroner's office later identified the victim as Rutravious Loftin.
Known to his family and friends as "Tra," Rutravious had recently earned his high school diploma on May 20, 2022. His family remembered him as being small in stature but having a big heart and a warm smile. An obituary described his fondness for his black Crown Victoria, a car that was well-known to those who knew him. His funeral service was held on June 18, 2022, as his family and community mourned the sudden and violent loss of a young life.
In the days following the shooting, the Columbus Police Department announced that the investigation was ongoing. However, to date, there has been no public announcement regarding any arrests made in connection with the murder of Rutravious Loftin. His case is listed on the Columbus Police Department's "Unsolved Homicides" webpage, a public appeal for information that might lead to a breakthrough in this and other unresolved cases in the city.
