In the early morning hours of June 5, 2022, Mariel Semonte Orr, a 34-year-old female known professionally as the rapper Trouble, was fatally shot at an apartment complex in Conyers, Georgia. Orr was visiting a female friend at the Lake St. James Apartments when a man forced his way into the residence. The intruder, later identified as Jamichael Jones, was involved in a domestic dispute with the woman Orr was visiting. Investigators confirmed that Orr and Jones did not know each other. Jones shot Orr once in the chest, and he was pronounced dead at the scene when deputies arrived around 3:20 a.m.

Following the shooting, the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office quickly identified 33-year-old Jamichael Jones as the suspect and issued warrants for his arrest on charges of murder, home invasion, and aggravated assault. A manhunt for Jones ensued. A few days later, through the persuasion of his mother and communication with law enforcement, Jones agreed to surrender. He was taken into custody without incident. Upon his arrest, Jones was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, battery, and home invasion.

The legal process concluded in March 2025, just as jury selection for his trial was set to begin. Jones accepted a negotiated plea agreement with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. As a result of the plea deal, the initial charges of malice and felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime were dropped. Jamichael Jones was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the death of Mariel Semonte Orr. He will receive credit for the time he had already served in jail since his arrest in June 2022.
