In the early morning hours of June 8, 2023, a domestic dispute in a Conyers, Georgia, home culminated in a tragic act of violence that claimed the life of 44-year-old Kallie Bankston, a Black female. The Conyers Police Department received a call about a person being shot at a residence in the 1600 block of Winchester Way at approximately 12:40 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Kallie Bankston, who had been fatally shot.
Inside the home, law enforcement also found 53-year-old Randell Bankston, who had sustained a gunshot wound as well. The preliminary investigation quickly suggested that the two had been involved in a domestic altercation that escalated dramatically. It is alleged that Randell Bankston shot Kallie Bankston before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide attempt.
Randell Bankston survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was reported to be in stable condition. Following the initial investigation into the fatal shooting, authorities charged him with murder in connection with Kallie Bankston's death. Law enforcement officials have indicated that upon his release from the hospital, he will be taken into custody and booked into the Rockdale County Jail to face the charges brought against him.
