In a tragic turn of events stemming from a domestic dispute, 38-year-old Cameron King was shot and killed on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, in Austell, Georgia. The violence that unfolded on Gardner Street also claimed the lives of his mother, 60-year-old Janice Peaks, and his stepfather, 63-year-old Donnell Peaks.
Authorities responded to a call around 12:30 p.m. and discovered the three victims inside the home, all suffering from gunshot wounds. Donnell and Janice Peaks were pronounced dead at the scene, while Cameron King was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect, 37-year-old Marcus Smith, who was identified as King's cousin and the son of Janice Peaks. Police believe a verbal and physical altercation preceded the fatal shootings. Smith was apprehended by police on a nearby street shortly after the incident.
Marcus Smith was taken into custody and charged with three counts of felony murder and three counts of aggravated assault in connection with the deaths of his mother, stepfather, and cousin. He was booked into the Cobb County jail and held without bail.
