On a Saturday evening in Twin City, Georgia, the life of Nicholas Jovantay Hall, a 32-year-old male, was brought to a sudden and violent end. On July 9, 2022, on Stokes Avenue, Hall was fatally wounded by a single gunshot. Emergency services were alerted to a person having been shot at approximately 9 p.m. When officers from the Twin City Police Department and deputies from the Emanuel County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they discovered Hall, who was pronounced deceased.
The
investigation into the shooting began immediately, with law enforcement quickly identifying a suspect at the location of the incident. Peggy Ann Milton, a 34-year-old resident of Twin City, was arrested at the scene in connection with Hall's death. She was taken into custody and transported to the Emanuel County Jail. Initially, Milton was booked on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Following her arrest, Peggy Ann Milton made her first appearance in Emanuel County Superior Court on Monday, July 11, 2022, where she was represented by the public defender's office and no bond was issued. The legal process continued, and in January 2023, a grand jury indicted Milton on multiple charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The case proceeded to trial, and on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, a verdict was reached and Milton was sentenced. The jury found her not guilty of malice murder. However, they found her guilty of felony murder, for which she received a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole. The aggravated assault charge was merged with the felony murder conviction. For the charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Milton was found guilty and sentenced to five years of probation.
