In the midst of his trial on charges of child sexual abuse, 51-year-old Christopher Daron Smith, a former pastor from Columbus, Georgia, took his own life on October 19, 2022. Smith was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the head during a recess in the court proceedings. His death brought an abrupt end to a legal battle that had begun years earlier.
