In the fall of 2022, a tragedy unfolded in Decatur, Georgia, that cut short the life of a young man. On the evening of October 28th, 23-year-old Devante Dawson, an African American male, was found fatally shot in a hallway of the Asberry Apartments on Flat Shoals Parkway. He was not alone; with him was his 21-year-old friend, Hassan Freeman, who had also been killed by gunfire.
