In the early morning hours of October 28, 2022, the life of 26-year-old Breanna Shawon Kirkland, an African American woman, was tragically cut short in Atlanta, Georgia. The fatal incident unfolded at a Shell gas station on Old National Highway in College Park, where Kirkland was discovered unresponsive around 6:15 a.m. having sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Surveillance footage from the gas station captured two vehicles pulling up alongside each other before at least one shot was
fired. In the moments that followed, a woman was seen walking toward the convenience store, holding a gun in one hand while talking on her cellphone. Kirkland's family believes she may have been followed to the location, as her new SUV had sustained recent damage along its side.
The College Park Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting and brought in a person of interest for questioning. However, no arrests have been announced in connection with the case. Investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting or the identity of the person of interest. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring justice for Breanna Shawon Kirkland and her grieving family.
