In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Jonesboro, Georgia, a dispute between two men who knew each other turned tragically fatal. The incident, which unfolded on November 6, 2022, left 29-year-old Willie Tucker dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The altercation occurred in the street near the intersection of Tara Boulevard and Old Dixie Road.
Around 7:57 a.m., patrolling Clayton County police officers were flagged down regarding the shooting. As they arrived at the scene, they discovered Willie Tucker in the roadway with several gunshot wounds. Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. Investigators later determined that the shooting was the culmination of an argument between Tucker and the alleged assailant.
While at the scene, officers witnessed a man attempting to flee the area. They quickly apprehended the individual, identified as 30-year-old Jonathan Powell. Upon his arrest, Powell was found to be in possession of the firearm that was allegedly used in the shooting. Law enforcement has stated that Powell and Tucker were acquainted with one another.
Following the investigation, Jonathan Powell was arrested and is facing multiple serious charges. The charges brought against him include malice murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
