In the quiet suburbs of Buford, Georgia, a domestic tragedy unfolded on a Sunday morning, leaving a community in shock and a family forever altered. On November 27, 2022, 44-year-old Desiree Ann Jean Marin, a female resident, lost her life in a violent encounter within her own home. The incident, which transpired at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Ivy Stone Trail, cut short the life of a woman who was a mother and a wife.
The events of that morning suggest a heated argument between Desiree and her husband, 44-year-old Michael Jason Marin, escalated to a fatal conclusion. It is believed that in the wake of their dispute, Michael Marin shot his wife before turning the firearm on himself. When Gwinnett County police officers arrived at the residence, they discovered both individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. An elementary-aged child was also present in the home at the time of the shooting but was thankfully not physically harmed and was later placed in the care of family members.
Both Desiree and her husband were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Desiree Ann Jean Marin succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Michael Marin was listed in critical condition following the incident.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Gwinnett County Police Homicide Unit launched an investigation. Evidence gathered at the scene led detectives to believe that the incident was a case of domestic violence culminating in a murder-suicide attempt. As a result, felony warrants were obtained for the arrest of Michael Jason Marin, charging him with aggravated assault and felony murder in connection with his wife's death. The investigation revealed no prior history of domestic-related calls to their residence.
