On the afternoon of Monday, June 3, 2019, Gwinnett County police officers arrived at the Preston Hills at Mill Creek apartment complex on Buford Drive. When no one answered the door, apartment staff let them into the residence. Inside, they discovered a tragic scene. Both Lachica Ringwood and her 40-year-old boyfriend, Jamaya Morris, were found deceased. There were no signs of forced entry into the apartment.
Further investigation revealed the grim details of what had transpired. Jamaya Morris was found lying on top of Lachica, having sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Once his body was moved, detectives discovered that Lachica had also been fatally shot.
