On September 12, 2020, Shakeya Smith, a 20-year-old Black woman, was found dead on a sidewalk near the entrance to the Roxwood Park subdivision in Buford, Georgia. Her body was discovered around 5 a.m. by a person driving home. The initial investigation revealed visible injuries and bleeding, but the exact cause of death was not immediately clear.
