Deputy Sheriff Brian Robert Litz, a 36-year-old white male, was tragically killed on February 7, 2004, in Ocala, Florida. Deputy Litz was performing a routine well-being check on Ivan K. Gotham, a 74-year-old man living alone in a retirement community. Gotham's son had contacted the Marion County Sheriff's Office, expressing concern for his father's safety due to his Alzheimer's Disease and the presence of a firearm in the home. Deputy Litz, along with other deputies, responded to the call.
