Elbert Lewis was a 38-year-old Black man from Birmingham, Alabama, whose life was irrevocably altered by an act of gun violence. For more than a year, he endured the severe consequences of his injuries before ultimately succumbing to them.
On November 29, 2016, Mr. Lewis was shot in an incident in Birmingham. The shooting left him paralyzed, a condition he lived with for the remainder of his life.
His struggle ended over a year later, on December 12, 2017, when he passed away from the complications of the gunshot wound he had sustained.
Following his death, the incident was classified as a homicide. However, public information regarding the investigation into the shooting has been limited. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the case.
