On December 5, 2013, Rodney Smith, a 26-year-old African American male, was fatally shot in the back in the Central Park Heights neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. The incident occurred at approximately 6:58 p.m. in the 3300 block of Virginia Avenue. Responding officers discovered Mr. Smith's body in an alley, and he was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m.
Mr. Smith's death marked the 218th homicide in Baltimore for the year 2013, surpassing the total number of homicides recorded in the city
