Patrick Andrew Register Sr., aged 26, tragically passed away on August 17, 2014, in Marianna, Florida. Born on November 29, 1987, in Blountstown, Florida, Patrick had spent his entire life in the Grand Ridge area. He was an equipment operator at Wrights Salvage Yard and was known as a loving husband, father, and son. Patrick is survived by his wife, Carol F. Register, and their two sons, Patrick Jr.
and Ayden, along with his parents, siblings, and extended family.
The circumstances surrounding Patrick's death were harrowing. On the night of the incident, Patrick was a passenger in a truck driven by his friend, Travis Martin Locke. The two men were ambushed while driving on Auburn Lane in Marianna. Gunshots were fired into the truck, resulting in both men being shot. Locke, who was shot in his right arm and abdomen, managed to drive to the home of Patrick's mother in Grand Ridge for help. Despite efforts to save him, Patrick succumbed to his injuries shortly after the deputy arrived and began performing CPR.
The investigation into Patrick's death revealed that the ambush was related to a drug deal gone wrong. Locke initially told officers that they had stopped to assist a woman with car troubles when they were attacked. However, he later admitted that they had arranged to meet Dayeisha Canika Curry to purchase pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in the production of methamphetamine. As they approached Curry's vehicle, two armed men attacked them, leading to the fatal shooting.
Four individuals were arrested in connection with the shooting and Patrick's death. Dayeisha Canika Curry, Jordan Taishon Davis, Christopher Michal Laster, and Laderious Corbitt Pittman were all charged with principal to murder and principal to attempted murder. Davis was believed to be the shooter from outside the truck, while Pittman was identified as the man who had entered the truck and fired the fatal shots. The arrests were made after police matched a shoe print left at the scene to one of the suspects and tracked cellphone data placing them at the location of the shooting.
The case highlighted the dangers associated with drug-related activities and the devastating impact they can have on families and communities. Patrick's death was a tragic loss for his family and friends, who remembered him as a dedicated family man and a valued member of the community. The legal proceedings against the suspects aimed to bring justice for Patrick and his loved ones, shedding light on the violent circumstances that led to his untimely death.
