On June 8, 2014, Ernest Edwards Jr. Barnes, age 24, was shot in the head in northeast Baltimore on Prior Avenue. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident took place during an ongoing period of violent crime in Baltimore, and like many cases at the time, there were few leads initially.
