Christopher Jermaine Allen, a 36-year-old resident of Okeechobee, Florida, tragically lost his life on May 12, 2016, in a fatal shooting incident. The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office reported that Allen was found unresponsive in the 700 block of N.E. 14th Avenue in the Douglas Park area. Deputies responded to the scene around 2:54 p.m. and performed CPR until Okeechobee County Fire Rescue arrived. Despite their efforts, Allen was transported to Raulerson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Alongside Allen, a 29-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was also shot and hospitalized. She was initially taken to Raulerson Hospital and later transferred to Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. Her condition remains unknown.
The investigation into Allen's death revealed that detectives were seeking 20-year-old Cornelius Monray Merriweather to assist with the case. Merriweather was identified as a person of interest, and authorities urged anyone with information to contact Detective Mark Shireman. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the motive remain unclear, and no arrests have been reported in connection with the case. The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident, seeking justice for Allen and answers for his grieving family and community.
