Quinton Gray, a 22-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on January 5, 2017, in Jacksonville, Florida. Quinton, who was a Marine Reservist, was involved in a fatal shooting incident that occurred during a road rage altercation. According to reports, Quinton Gray and his friend Cedric Moss had pulled into a convenience store around the same time as Charles Smith III, a 21-year-old male. As Quinton Gray drove away, Charles Smith III allegedly fired between eight and fifteen rounds into Gray's vehicle. Quinton was struck at least once in the head, causing him to lose control of his car, which then crashed into another vehicle and a tree. Despite being rushed to UF Health Jacksonville, Quinton succumbed to his injuries. Cedric Moss, who was also in the car, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Charles Smith III was arrested less than two weeks after the incident and charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
