On February 13, 2017, 15-year-old Shanice Smith and her mother, Karen Lyle, were tragically found dead in their townhouse in Sunrise, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The incident was a result of a double shooting carried out by Kevin Nelson, Karen Lyle's husband and Shanice's stepfather. Nelson, who was 32 years old at the time, confessed to the crime during a 911 call, stating that he was the person with the gun and that both victims were dead.
