Kema Odeane, a 27-year-old male, was tragically killed on November 13, 2017, in Tampa, Florida. The incident occurred at the Island Grill nightclub located at 3404 E. Lake Avenue. According to reports, a fight broke out among several individuals inside the club, which escalated into gunfire. Police officers responded to the scene around 1:49 a.m. and discovered Kema Odeane's body inside the nightclub. The scene was chaotic, with trails of blood and people fleeing in all directions.
Bullet casings were found both inside and outside the club, indicating multiple shots were fired.
The investigation revealed that there were dozens of people inside the club when the shooting occurred, and it is believed that there may have been additional victims who were injured but did not remain at the scene. Police interviewed about a dozen individuals who stayed behind, and two people of interest were identified. One of these individuals was an injured man who walked into St. Joseph’s hospital, and the other was an adult male questioned at his home in Progress Village. However, no suspects were in custody at the time.
Detectives determined that the shooting did not appear to be related to any other active homicide investigations. Additionally, a report of a stabbing at the nightclub was found to be connected to the shooting incident. The stabbing victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
