Kimson Green, a 16-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on April 8, 2018, in the Liberty City neighborhood of Miami, Florida. Kimson, a sophomore at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, was known for his academic excellence and was set to be inducted into the National Honor Society the following month. On the day of his death, Kimson was sitting in front of an apartment building with friends when gunfire erupted, resulting in his death and the injury of two
others.
The community was deeply affected by Kimson's death. Students at Miami Northwestern High School organized a walkout to honor his memory and demand action against gun violence. The school's principal, Wallace Aristide, supported the students' initiative, creating a safe space on campus for them to express their grief and call for preventive services, intervention programs, and grief counseling.
In the aftermath of the shooting, police arrested two suspects, 22-year-old Yaairnes Rashad Bryant and 19-year-old Anthony Clinch. Both were charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. The arrests were made after a thorough investigation, and both suspects were denied bond and held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Despite the arrests, Bryant's mother maintained her son's innocence, claiming he was with his daughter at the time of the shooting.
