Suzanne Jane Koivisto Kasven, aged 64, tragically passed away on December 13, 2018, in Vero Beach, Florida. Her death was part of a murder-suicide incident involving her husband, Samuel Kasven, aged 72. The couple resided in the Waterway Village community, located in the 5100 block of Formosa Circle. Concerns arose when a neighbor, who frequently watched over their home during their absences, had not seen them for several days.
This prompted the neighbor to check on the couple, leading to the discovery of their bodies in their home around 12:30 p.m. on December 13, 2018.
Upon entering the residence, the neighbor found Suzanne and Samuel Kasven lying in bed with a gun placed between them. The Indian River County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggested that Samuel Kasven had fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. The couple had been deceased for several days before their bodies were discovered. A black pistol was found at the scene, further supporting the murder-suicide theory.
The investigation into the incident remained open as detectives awaited the medical examiner's report and other necessary documentation to close the case. However, the Sheriff's Office did not believe that any individuals other than the couple were involved in the incident. The tragic event left the community in shock, as neighbors and friends grappled with the sudden and violent loss of the Kasvens.
