Martin "Chico" Jaime Reyes, a 31-year-old resident of Fort Pierce, Florida, tragically lost his life on June 2, 2019. Martin was a lifelong resident of Fort Pierce and a graduate of Fort Pierce Westwood High School. He worked for Buchanan & Sons and Roy Jorgensen, contributing to road maintenance work. Martin was known for his kind heart and willingness to help others, despite having limited resources himself.
He was a family-oriented individual, leaving behind two young children, a 7-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.
On the evening of June 2, 2019, Martin was fatally shot on Delaware Avenue in Fort Pierce. The incident also claimed the life of another man, Calletano Molina, 41, and left a third man wounded. The three men were in a pickup truck when the shooting occurred. Martin's mother, Lisa Reyes, described him as a good-hearted person who had no known conflicts with anyone. She believed he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Despite Martin's past criminal history, including a felony marijuana charge in 2016, his family did not think it played a role in his death.
The investigation into Martin's death has been ongoing. Fort Pierce police have been actively seeking information from the public to help solve the case. Lisa Reyes and her daughter, Sara Cardenas, have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the impact of the loss on their family. They expressed concerns about the safety of their community, knowing that the perpetrator(s) remained at large. The family also faced additional distress when a memorial cross erected at the site of Martin's death was vandalized with bullet strikes, further highlighting the ongoing challenges they faced in seeking justice for Martin.
The Fort Pierce police have continued to investigate the incident, but as of the latest updates, no arrests have been made. The family remains hopeful that those responsible for Martin's death will be brought to justice, and they continue to appeal to the community for any information that could aid in the investigation.
