Inandi Wyche, a 17-year-old student from Ribault High School in Jacksonville, Florida, tragically lost her life on March 19, 2020. She was fatally shot while dropping off a friend in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood on Jacksonville’s Northside. According to reports, a gray car pulled up in front of her vehicle on Portsmouth Avenue, and two men exited the car, opening fire.
Inandi was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene.
The investigation into Inandi's death revealed that the shooting was part of a botched gang retaliation. The intended target was not Inandi but her date, Terise Powe, also known as rapper Kshordy. The shooters, identified as Roland Ball Jr. and Xavion Porter, were believed to be targeting Powe due to an ongoing dispute between rival gangs. Powe was injured in the attack but survived. The police described both Ball and Porter as known gang members.
Nearly a year after the incident, significant progress was made in the case. Roland Ball Jr., 21, was arrested and initially charged with second-degree murder. However, the charges were later upgraded to first-degree murder. Ball also faced additional charges of tampering with or harassing a witness or victim. A 16-year-old accomplice was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, though his identity was not disclosed due to his minor status.
The case garnered considerable attention and support from the community, with Inandi's mother, Monique, actively seeking justice for her daughter. She expressed her gratitude for the community's support and emphasized the importance of continued prayers and efforts to ensure convictions for those responsible. The trial for Roland Ball is ongoing, with prosecutors presenting evidence of the gang-related motives behind the shooting.
