Adrein Green, a 17-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on May 5, 2020, in Sanford, Florida. The incident occurred in the early morning hours when Adrein was allegedly attempting to burglarize a vehicle inside a gated property. According to reports, the homeowners were awakened by noises coming from their front yard. The male resident, armed with a pistol, confronted Adrein and, feeling threatened, fired two shots, resulting in Adrein's death.

The State Attorney, Phil Archer, announced that the homeowner would not face criminal charges. The decision was based on Florida's self-defense laws, which provide protections for individuals defending themselves and their property. The homeowner, whose identity remains undisclosed under Marsy's Law, claimed that Adrein was moving towards him and his family, prompting the use of lethal force.

Adrein's family, represented by attorney Mark O'Mara, who previously defended George Zimmerman, has been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the decision. They have called for a grand jury to review the case, seeking justice for Adrein. The family and community members have held memorials and gatherings to honor Adrein's memory and to demand further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Despite the legal outcome, the case has left a lasting impact on the Sanford community, highlighting ongoing debates about self-defense laws and their application. Adrein's death remains a poignant reminder of the complexities and consequences of such incidents.
