Daquan McClain, a 19-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on June 17, 2016, in Sanford, Florida. The incident occurred during a planned drive-by shooting involving McClain and two other individuals, Cornelius Prince and Kobe Hunter. On the night of June 18, 2016, McClain, Prince, and Hunter drove to the area of 13th Place and Oleander Avenue with the intent to commit a drive-by shooting. However, upon their arrival, they were met with gunfire from other individuals in the area. McClain was struck by the gunfire and subsequently taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital by Prince and Hunter, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The investigation into McClain's death revealed that Prince and Hunter had left the hospital without identifying themselves to law enforcement. Due to the circumstances of the incident, where McClain was killed during the commission of a felony, both Prince and Hunter were charged with first-degree felony homicide. Additionally, they faced charges of shooting into a dwelling and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
