Mihn "Tina" Nguyen, a 47-year-old Vietnamese-American woman, tragically lost her life on November 30, 2020, in Mount Dora, Florida. Mihn and her husband, Khiem "Ken" Ba Trinh, 56, were the owners of T & N Market, a convenience store located at 1345 North Grandview Street. On the evening of November 30, as they were closing their store, a masked gunman entered and forced Khiem back into the store. The assailant then shot both Mihn and Khiem multiple times during an armed robbery. Mihn was pronounced dead at the scene, while Khiem was airlifted to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, where he succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
The Mount Dora Police Department responded to the scene after a customer discovered the victims and called 911. Despite the immediate response, the suspect managed to flee on foot through the parking lot and remains at large.
The police have released surveillance footage from inside the store, showing the moments before the shooting, in hopes of identifying the suspect. The community has been deeply affected by the loss of Mihn and Khiem, who were well-known and beloved members of the Northeast Community in Mount Dora.
In the aftermath of the murders, the police have pursued numerous leads but have yet to make an arrest. A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. The investigation revealed that the suspect is a male with a thin build, but further details about his identity remain unknown. In December 2020, the police arrested 42-year-old Undrea Dixon for providing false statements during the investigation. Dixon was accused of entering the store after the shooting, failing to render aid, and later lying about her actions. She pleaded no contest to the charges in April 2021.
The Mount Dora Police Department continues to seek the community's assistance in solving this case. Police Chief Michael Gibson has emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating that even the smallest tip could make a significant difference in bringing the perpetrator to justice. The tragic loss of Mihn Nguyen and Khiem Ba Trinh has left a lasting impact on their family and the community, who remember them as hardworking and kind individuals who sought a better life in America.
