Christopher Roan, a 38-year-old resident of Pensacola, Florida, tragically lost his life on December 18, 2020. The incident occurred at a home located in the 2300 block of Packwood Drive. According to reports, deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting at the residence. Upon arrival, they were met by Roan's mother, Linda Blackmon, who informed them that her son was dead and that her husband, James Blackmon Jr., had fled the scene.
Inside the home, deputies found Roan lying partially in a hallway with his girlfriend, Samantha Noble, by his side. Roan had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his forehead, and showed no signs of life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Roan and his stepfather, James Blackmon Jr. According to a sworn affidavit, Blackmon and Roan were arguing when Blackmon retrieved a firearm. Although Blackmon initially claimed he did not want to shoot his stepson, the situation escalated, leading to Roan taking the weapon away from Blackmon. Blackmon then retrieved another firearm and, despite his wife’s attempts to intervene, fired multiple shots at Roan until his handgun was empty. James Blackmon Jr. was arrested shortly after the incident when deputies spotted him driving back towards the residence. In the back seat of a patrol car, Blackmon made spontaneous statements admitting to the shooting, stating that he was in fear of his stepson. During the trial, Blackmon testified in his own defense, reiterating his claim of self-defense. However, the jury found him guilty of second-degree murder for the death of Christopher Roan and first-degree attempted murder for the shooting of Samantha Noble.
