Ladarius Clardy, an 18-year-old standout quarterback from Pensacola, Florida, tragically lost his life on July 1, 2021. Clardy, who had been a promising football star at Pine Forest High School and was playing for Kennesaw State University, was fatally shot in a hail of bullets while driving his vehicle. The incident occurred near West Fairfield Drive and Hollywood Avenue in Pensacola, where more than 50 rounds were fired at his car, causing it to veer off the road and crash into an embankment.
Clardy was struck 14 times, and his friend, Eric Young, who was also in the vehicle, sustained injuries but survived.
The investigation into Clardy's death revealed that he was not the intended target of the shooting. The assailants, Da'quavion Snowden, his brother Amos Snowden, and their cousin Kobie Jenkins, mistakenly believed they were attacking someone else. The motive behind the shooting was linked to a hit job intended for another individual, Kaderrick Teemer, who was allegedly present at a dice game earlier that night. Unfortunately, Clardy became an unintended victim of this violent act.
Following a thorough investigation, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office made several arrests. Da'quavion Snowden was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and attempted first-degree premeditated murder for his role in the shooting. He admitted to driving the car from which the shots were fired but claimed he did not understand why he was being charged with murder since he did not personally fire a weapon. Despite his defense, the jury convicted him, and he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, along with an additional 30-year sentence for the attempted murder of Eric Young.
Amos Snowden and Kobie Jenkins were also implicated in the crime. Amos Snowden faced charges of principal to first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The case against Jenkins was still ongoing, with authorities actively seeking his arrest. The tragic death of Ladarius Clardy not only highlighted the senseless violence that claimed his life but also underscored the impact on his family and community, who mourned the loss of a young man with a bright future ahead of him.
