Curtis Murray Jr., a 34-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on May 10, 2021, in Titusville, Florida. The incident occurred during an armed home invasion at his residence on Rock Pit Road. According to reports, Curtis Murray Jr. was shot once during the robbery and succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident. The Titusville Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:30 PM and found Murray with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Curtis Murray Jr.'s death led to the arrest of two suspects. Marqwone Bryce Lemon, a 24-year-old male from Sanford, Florida, was charged with first-degree felony murder with a firearm, robbery with a firearm inflicting death, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Lemon was identified through security video footage and was apprehended in Orange County on June 9, 2021. He is currently held without bond in the Volusia County Jail on unrelated charges and will be transferred to Brevard County upon the disposition of those charges.
The second suspect, Devante Byron Hendricks, a 28-year-old male also from Sanford, was charged with violation of felony probation. Both suspects were located at a residence in Orlando and taken into custody with the assistance of the Orlando Police Department and the US Marshals Service. The arrests were made possible through investigative evidence and information provided by community members.
The Brevard County Grand Jury indicted Marqwone Lemon for first-degree felony murder with a firearm in the death of Curtis Murray Jr. The indictment also included charges of robbery with a firearm inflicting death, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The case remains under investigation, and additional charges may be filed as new evidence emerges.
