On May 4, 2016, 77-year-old Raymond Chambers, a Black/African American male, was discovered deceased inside his residence in the 1500 block of North Durham Street in East Baltimore, Maryland. His death was officially ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner's office, which determined the cause to be injuries from a sharp object. At the time of the discovery, the circumstances suggested a violent encounter had taken place.

Chambers was a lifelong resident of Baltimore and was known for his dedication to his community. He was particularly passionate about supporting local children, often gathering and distributing school supplies and hosting block parties, especially around the start of the school year. His sudden and violent death left his family and community seeking answers and justice in a city grappling with a high level of violent crime.
Despite the ongoing investigation by Baltimore Police homicide detectives, no immediate suspects were identified at the scene of the crime. As of August 2016, several months after his death, police were still actively searching for a suspect and appealing to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. Law enforcement officials acknowledged the significant challenges their investigation faced, including the difficulty in gathering sufficient evidence and encouraging witnesses to come forward. To date, there have been no publicly announced arrests or identification of any suspect or suspects in connection with the murder of Raymond Chambers.
