The investigation into Grimmage's death led to the arrest of Joshua Emmanuel Hall, a 36-year-old resident of Micanopy. Hall was initially taken into custody on December 20, 2022, for unrelated charges of narcotics and firearm possession. However, further investigation connected him to Grimmage's murder. Witnesses reported seeing a dark Dodge Avenger in the area around the time of the shooting, and a woman later informed the police that she had loaned the vehicle to Grimmage. The car was found with bullet markings and bloodstains, and a phone inside the vehicle contained conversations between Hall and Grimmage related to narcotics transactions.
Fingerprints and other forensic evidence linked Hall to the crime scene and the vehicle. Additionally, cellular tracking data placed Hall in the vicinity of the murder at the relevant time. A witness also reported that Hall had arrived at their residence with an unusually large amount of money shortly after the incident. During Hall's arrest, law enforcement recovered a 9mm Taurus pistol, which was later matched to the bullets that killed Grimmage.
