Antone J. F. Nolting, a 58-year-old sergeant with the San Francisco Police Department, tragically lost his life on January 8, 1909. On that fateful night, Nolting encountered a United States Army soldier on Montgomery Street, near Clay Street. The soldier, heavily intoxicated, was forcing two companions to march at gunpoint.
