James Ralph "Jim" Gianera, aged 25, tragically lost his life on January 25, 1973, in Santa Cruz, California. Jim, along with his wife Joan, was brutally murdered by Herbert Mullin, a high school friend. Mullin, who had a history of mental illness and substance abuse, shot and stabbed the couple in their home. The Gianeras were survived by their child, who was with Joan's mother at the time of the murders.
