Deputy Sheriff Jack Don Williams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was tragically killed on May 29, 1979, while executing a search warrant at a residence in La Puente, California. Williams, along with other members of the Narcotics Bureau, attempted a forced entry into the home when one of the suspects inside opened fire with a shotgun, fatally striking him.
