Donald Michael "Mike" Merrill, aged 48, tragically lost his life on July 1, 1993, in San Francisco, California. Merrill was one of the victims of the infamous 101 California Street shooting, a mass shooting that occurred at an office building in downtown San Francisco. The shooter, Gian Luigi Ferri, entered the building armed with two TEC-9 handguns and a .45 semi-automatic pistol.
