In the spring of 2011, a violent encounter on a Baltimore street set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to a man's death more than five years later. On the night of April 17, 2011, 57-year-old Bernell A. Perkins, a Black male, was shot in the head in the 3200 block of Vickers Road. The initial attack left him with devastating injuries that he would battle for years to come.
For more than five years, Mr. Perkins lived with the consequences of that fateful night. However, the wounds he sustained proved to be insurmountable, and on September 27, 2016, at the age of 62, Bernell A. Perkins died. Following his death, the Baltimore Police Department officially ruled the cause of death to be a homicide, directly linking it to the shooting that had occurred over half a decade earlier.
In the wake of his death, the investigation into the shooting was reclassified as a homicide investigation. As of late 2016, Baltimore police confirmed that the case remained open and was actively being investigated. However, despite the passage of time, there has been no public announcement of any arrests made in connection with the shooting, nor has any information been released regarding a potential suspect or suspects. The case of who shot Bernell A. Perkins remains unsolved, leaving his family and community without answers or a sense of justice for his untimely death.
