In the late hours of a spring evening in Baltimore, tragedy struck the Sharp-Leadenhall neighborhood. On May 5, 2024, Lavontay Bishop, a 33-year-old Black male, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 1000 block of Leadenhall Street. The call came in to the Baltimore Police Department at approximately 10:39 p.m., reporting a shooting in the area near Federal Hill.
Responding officers discovered Bishop at the scene.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Lavontay Bishop succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The cause of his death was officially ruled a homicide by shooting.
The investigation into Bishop's murder was taken over by the Southern District Detectives. In the days following the shooting, authorities began their search for those responsible. Investigators released several surveillance photos to the public, showing four individuals they identified as possible suspects in the fatal shooting. The police have asked for the public's assistance in identifying these persons of interest and have encouraged anyone with information to come forward. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with police continuing to seek information from the community to bring closure to the case. Authorities have not publicly identified any of the potential suspects or announced any arrests in the killing of Lavontay Bishop.
